Most sidewalks are just an afterthought - something slapped down to check a box. But a sidewalk that's too narrow, uneven, or slick when wet isn't just annoying. It's a liability. That's why we put real thought into every pour, from the width and layout to the finish on the surface.
Here's what we were working with on this one - a full-length sidewalk run along the side of a commercial metal building. We formed it wide enough to give people genuine room to move, not just technically enough space to squeeze through. That width matters. Whether it's two people walking side by side or someone carrying equipment to a side entrance, the extra room makes the whole thing more functional.
The finish we put on this concrete is broom-textured. That's not just for looks - it gives the surface real grip. Wet concrete with no texture is a slip hazard. A proper broom finish cuts that risk down significantly, which is especially important on a commercial property where foot traffic is regular and the stakes are higher if someone goes down.
We also took care of the formwork and base prep before a single yard of concrete got poured. The gravel base underneath is what keeps the slab from shifting or cracking over time. Skip that step and it doesn't matter how good the pour looks - it'll eventually move. We don't skip it. Every sidewalk we build gets the same treatment, whether it's a short residential walk or a long commercial run like this one.
This is the kind of work we do on every concrete job - no shortcuts, no cutting corners on prep, and a finished product that holds up long after we've packed up and moved on.
